Exhibition "A Jamaica Queens Thing" Rap and the Crack Era in South Jamaica, Queens, at Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning. This exhibition brought me back home. Jamaica, Queens is my old hood. I went to High School just a few blocks from the Center and did most of my shopping on the Blvd, not to mention graffiti writing. I remember the devastating impact crack had on the community and the many acquaintances that succumbed to the drugs unknown potency. As a child, friends and I played in abandoned houses. During the 80's crack epidemic these abandoned houses became popular drug dens and shooting galleries. Meant a lot to me to be part of this exhibition.
