Latinx Abstract - Artist Talk

I'll be taking part in an artist talk this Friday, March 12, 2021 at 7pm.

Join curator Elizabeth Ferrer and exhibition artists Candida Alvarez, Karlos Cárcamo, and Vargas-Suarez Universal for a discussion about the exhibition Latinx Abstract. A cross-generational presentation featuring ten artists working in diverse media, this exhibition underscores the significant although little-explored role that abstraction has played among Latinx artists.

In doing so, the exhibition aims to challenge the established history of abstract art in the United States, which largely excludes the contributions of Latinx artists. The evening will include a virtual walkthrough of the exhibition and presentations by artists Candida Alvarez, Karlos Cárcamo, and Vargas-Suarez Universal.

Excited to have some of my monochromatic abstract paintings from the Kase Painting series included in this exhibition. It's one of the first times that I show this body of work in an exhibition since I started it a few years ago. This is true for the large scale pieces. Nice to see so much great work in the exhibition with some familiar names but also many artists that I had not heard of before. 

The exhibition includes work by: Candida Alvarez, Maria Chávez, Alejandro Guzmán, Glendalys Medina, Freddy Rodríguez, Fanny Sanín, Mary Valverde, Vargas-Suarez Universal, and Sarah Zapata.
